WSOC: Huskies and Lady Lions Finish in a 1-1 Draw

Freshman defender Rylan Breath scores her first collegiate goal

HOUSTON – HCU freshman defender Rylan Breath scored in the sixth minute to stake the Huskies to an early lead but visiting Southeastern scored a first half equalizer and the two teams played out to a 1-1 tie in Southland Conference women's soccer play at Sorrels Field on Thursday evening.

Isabella Alamo nearly put HCU (6-3-4, 2-0-2 SLC) ahead in the fourth minute when she blasted a shot that caromed off the crossbar, leading to a Southeastern (5-6-2, 1-3-1 SLC) goal kick. The Huskies quickly regained possession and pushed forward with senior Olivia Rossman dribbling down the middle of the field to the top of the box and sent a pass between a pair of defenders to a streaking Breath coming in from the wing and lifting a goal over the keeper and under the crossbar to put HCU ahead in the sixth minute.

The visitors found their equalizer in the 30th minute when Daniella Muro dribbled down the right side and, from a tough angle, was able to lift her shot over HCU keeper Emmy McKeon's head and come down just inside the far post.

Isabella Dillow nearly put HCU back on top less than two minutes into the second half when she directed a header off a free kick toward the bottom left corner but Kendall Curran got a mitt on the ball after laying out to make the save. McKeon made three saves for HCU in the half while the Huskies forced Curran into one addition stop in the half.

The match finished with HCU holding an 11-9 advantage in shot attempts with SLU putting five shots on goal the Huskies' three. HCU earned seven corners in the draw and the Lady Lions earned two.

Breath's first collegiate goal came on the first shot of her career as a Husky. Rossman's assist was her fourth of the year, which ties her for most on the team. In goal, McKeon ended the evening with four saves.

The Huskies remain one of just two unbeaten teams in SLC play and take an eight-match unbeaten streak to Lake Charles, La. on Sunday, Oct. 11, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against the McNeese Cowgirls.
