HOUSTON – HCU women's soccer played to a 0-0 draw on Thursday evening in the Huskies' Southland Conference opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christ at Sorrels Field.
The Islanders (2-4-3, 0-0-1 SLC) had an early shot by Cilia Leal go just wide in the fifth minute and the next shot of the game came more than 13 minutes later, again off the foot of Leal, with HCU (5-4-1, 0-0-1 SLC) keeper
Emmy McKeon making a save to the top right corner. The rest of the first half, there were just six more shot attempts from the two teams combined but none of them were on target.
HCU opened the second half putting pressure on the Islanders with four shots on goal in the first 11 minutes but TAMUCC's Hayven Harrison came up with saves on each. In the 83
rd minute,
Brynn Dunbar put a shot from the top of the 18-yard box off the crossbar that came straight down behind a diving Harrison.
The Huskies held a 15-12 shot advantage with four attempts on goal while limiting TAMUCC to just 12. Corner kicks were 3-2 in the Huskies' favor.
The Huskies return to play next Thursday, Sept. 25, with a trip to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar at 7:00 p.m.
