HOUSTON – The fourth, and final, non-conference game of the 2025 season is up next for the HCU football team when the Huskies take on Northern Colorado at Husky Stadium this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Nicholas Pietrzycki providing play-by-play and Jackson Cochran serving as color analyst while Luke Mauro provides audio play-by-play on Patriot Talk 920 AM.
HCU (1-2) and Northern Colorado (1-2) will meet for the fifth time since 2014 with the Bears owning a 3-1 lead in the series. The last matchup, however, went to the Huskies in the form of a 46-34 win in Greeley, Colo. on Sept. 3, 2022. Current redshirt senior safety
Xavier Toliver finished that game with eight tackles while linebacker
Rodney Dansby had five tackles and a sack in the win.
In last weekend's road matchup at Nebraska, redshirt freshman
Xai'Shaun Edwards broke a 45-yard touchdown run for the Huskies and finished with 82 yards rushing on 13 attempts against the Cornhuskers. Toliver led the defense with seven tackles.
Offensively, Edwards leads the team with 301 all-purpose yards so far this season with
Darryle Evans adding 201.
Tamarcus Gray Jr. and
Ja'Ryan Wallace are tied for the team lead with 93 yards receiving.
On defense,
Norey Johnson has a team-high 16 tackles with Dansby right behind him at 15. Dansby also has one tackle for loss, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.
Ravonte Blowe's two sacks lead the team while cornerback
Thio Georges is second on the squad with 1.5 TFLs.
The Bears have lost their last two games in close fashion, dropping a heartbreaker at Colorado State, 21-17, two weeks ago and falling, 24-17, in overtime last weekend at 12
th-ranked South Dakota. They opened the season with a 17-3 home win over Chadron State.
UNC has taken care of the football so far this season, turning the ball over just twice while forcing opponents into seven turnovers. Additionally, the Bears rank 11
th in the FCS for fewest penalties per game with an average of just 4.33 flags per game.
Eric Gibson Jr. has thrown for 535 yards for the Bears, completing 48-of-72 passes with one touchdown and one interception. Carver Cheeks leads the team with 188 yards receiving on 11 catches while Brayden Munroe has nine receptions for 173 yards and a score.
Redshirt freshman Hudson Voggesser leads the UNC defense with 25 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, one sack, one breakup and one quarterback hurry. Last weekend at South Dakota he totaled a career-high 16 tackles.
HCU will get a bye week next weekend with Southland Conference play kicking off in the Rio Grande Valley against UTRGV on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7:00 p.m. in Edinburg, Texas.
