WSOC: HCU Wraps Non-Conference Play with a 2-0 Road Win Over La. Tech

The Huskies get goals from Zylee Dominguez and Emma Smith

RUSTON, La. – HCU women's soccer earned a 2-0 road win over Louisiana Tech on Sunday afternoon at Caruthers Field for the third shutout win of the season, closing out non-conference play.

HCU (5-4) goalkeeper Emmy McKeon was forced into a relatively easy save in the sixth minute on a header from a distance that bounced right in front of her to the center of the net.

In the 29th minute, Olivia Rossman intercepted a pass deep in Louisiana Tech (1-8-1) territory and quickly sent a ball ahead into the box where Ella Remy was waiting in front of goal but her attempt to the bottom left was stopped by the keeper. Zylee Dominguez put a shot on goal with less than two minutes left in the half from outside the 18-yard box but it was scooped by Cadence Rutledge in front of the goal.

In the first 12 minutes of the second half, HCU put one shot on goal while La. Tech had three, thought none of them was a dangerous look. The Huskies broke through in the 58th minute when Isabella Alamo dribbled the from left to right just outside the top the 18 before sending a pass in to Dominguez who took possession and blasted a shot to the top shelf and into the top of the net to put the Huskies ahead, 1-0.

Goal number two for the Huskies 15 minutes later when Remy dribbled in along the end line and sent a nifty pass through a defender's legs to Emma Smith near the penalty spot and the junior sent a shot to the bottom left corner past a diving keeper.

The goals were career-firsts for both Dominguez and Smith with the assists from Alamo and Remy registering as their first for the Huskies. In goal, McKeon recorded career shutout number five while making six saves.

HCU held a 13-10 advantage in total shot attempts with both sides putting six shots on target. Additionally, corner kicks earned were even at five a side while both teams were called for 11 fouls.

Southland Conference play kicks off this Thursday, Sept. 18, evening when the Huskies host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7:00 p.m. at Sorrels Field.
