ABILENE, Texas – HCU and Abilene Christian were locked in a scoreless battle until the host Wildcats scored the game-winner in the 86
th minute on Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 Huskies' loss at Elmer Gray Stadium.
The first half saw both teams looking for opportunities with the two teams combining for six shot attempts total during the first 45 minutes. The Wildcats (3-1) put a pair of shots on target in the 16
th and 20
th minutes, but
Terra Rybuck made saves on each for HCU (2-2). The Huskies put a pair of shots on goal later in the half with
Haydan Erck and
Iliana Sanchez the shot-takers in the 34
th and 39
th minutes.
ACU tested Rybuck again at the 51:15 mark but the junior came up with another save. The Huskies got additional shots on goal from Erck,
Zylee Dominguez,
Ella Remy and
Isabella Dillow but all were unable to find the net. The Wildcats got on the board at the 85:40 mark in the game with Shakira Kafero Roberts putting a shot in goal with an assist from Peyton Hill. HCU had a shot go off target but a last second shot on goal by Isabella Alamo was stopped by an ACU defender.
Rybuck finished the game with four saves in goal for the Huskies. ACU held a slim 10-8 lead in shot attempts but the Huskies put seven shots on goal to ACU's five. HCU earned five corners while conceding four to the Wildcats. The Huskies were also called for six offside offenses in the loss.
HCU is back home at Sorrels Field for its next two games, first hosting College of Charleston on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 5:00 p.m. before facing off against Southern at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30.
