BSB: Huskies Head to Nicholls for SLC Series

HCU looks to extend strong conference start against Colonels

THIBODAUX, La. – HCU baseball returns to Southland Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Nicholls, beginning Friday at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

HCU (18-9, 10-2 SLC) enters the series sitting atop the SLC standings, hitting .341 as a team in conference play to lead all teams while boasting a .905 team OPS. Tevis Payne leads the Huskies with a .455 batting average, while Rhett Hendricks and Matthew Leiterman are both hitting over .400 in league play. Parker Edwards has been a power threat, slugging .771 with five home runs. On the mound, Louis Castano has posted a 2.08 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 13 innings, while Ben Norton has locked down four saves.

The Huskies are coming off two non-conference road games earlier this week, falling 3-2 at Baylor on Tuesday before bouncing back with a 15-13 road win over Prairie View A&M on Wednesday.

Nicholls (11-18, 5-10 SLC) enters the series after being swept in a three-game set at Northwestern State last weekend. The Colonels hold a .261 team batting average in conference play, recording 130 hits, 70 RBIs, and 21 doubles over 15 games. Aaron Biediger leads the team with a .356 average and .885 OPS, while Chase Jans has hit .333 with six RBIs. Jaden Collura has driven in 16 runs while hitting .315 with four doubles.

On the mound, the Colonels carry a 6.34 team ERA, with Alec Sparks leading the staff with a 3.51 ERA over 25.2 innings and Nuno Parache posting a 3.66 ERA in 19.2 innings. 

Following the weekend series, HCU will head to Austin for a midweek matchup against Texas on Tuesday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m.
