Willey remains in top 10; HCU looks to bounce back on final day at Comanche Trace

KERRVILLE, Texas – HCU men's golf dropped one spot to sixth place after the second round of the Southland Conference Championship at Comanche Trace Ranch. The Huskies posted a team score of 294 (+6) on Tuesday for a two-round total of 592 (+16).

Francis Marion sits just ahead in fifth at +10, while Augusta extended its lead at the top with a total of -11, recording rounds of 285 (-3) and 280 (-8).

Brendon Willey continues to pace the Huskies, currently tied for eighth place. He followed an even-par 72 with a steady 71 on Tuesday, recording nines of 35 and 36. Willey opened with six consecutive birdies, added another on hole 7, and despite a bogey on 8, responded with a birdie on 9. On the back nine, he recorded two bogeys and birdies on holes 11 and 17.

Mason Napier remains consistent with back-to-back rounds of 74, sitting tied for 21st. He shot a 38 on the front with three bogeys and a birdie on 6, then posted a 36 on the back nine with a bogey on 13 and a birdie on the par-4 18th.

Brooks Pawlak, Clayton Smith, and Roy Barrera are all tied for 29th at +7. Pawlak improved three strokes from his first round, climbing eight spots. He birdied holes 3 and 11, and played through a double bogey on 12 and a bogey on 18 to finish with a 74.

Smith improved by one shot, moving up three positions. He posted rounds of 35 and 40 with birdies on holes 4, 9, 10, and 15, and ran into trouble with two double bogeys and one bogey.

Barrera has carded rounds of 75 and 76, shooting 38 on both nines in round two, with birdies on holes 2 and 10.

HCU will tee off Wednesday morning for the final round of the Southland Conference Championship, playing alongside Francis Marion and Lamar.
