Houston Christian University travels just east on I-10 to Beaumont to take on Lamar University in a three-game Southland series. The series will be a Thursday/Friday set due to the Easter holiday weekend, with a twin-bill to open at 3 pm Friday and the series finale on Good Friday at 3 pm.

The Huskies are coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of league-leading McNeese last weekend, pushing HCU's losing streak to nine games with seven games remaining on the regular season schedule.

Haylie Savage now leads the offense with the loss of table-setter and starting centerfielder AB Garcia nearly two weeks ago. Savage is batting .380 on the season with a team-best 29 RBI on the year to lead the Huskies offense. The senior third baseman from Angleton, Texas is one of just 10 players ever at HCU to hit the century mark in runs driven in (now at 118) and her homer at UTA made her one of just nine players in school history with 20 career home runs.

She enters the weekend series with Lamar sitting on 191 career hits, good for eighth all-time, and she is one of just six players in school history with 40 or more doubles, ranking tied for third with 43. Savage is now eighth in all-time at-bats and walks while nearing the top 10 in games played and runs scored.

Savage had her career-best 11-game hitting streak snapped in the finale against McNeese. She has recorded 10 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games. She is seventh in the league in batting average, eighth in OPS and ninth in slugging. She also ranks eighth in RBI and doubles and 10th in walks.

Ella Herrewig is third on the club in batting at .313 and is second in runs scored and stolen bases. Maddy Bailey is batting .276 and is third on the club with 14 RBI, just behind Hanna York's 15, which is the most for a freshman since Katy Schaefer drove in 18 in 2018.

Two rookie hurlers continue to lead pitching staff, as Cara Pitman and Leah Hammack have combined for 11 of the team's 13 victories. The six wins by Pitman and five by Hammack are the most for a frosh hurler since Emma Guindon had nine in 2019.

Pitman leads the club in wins, innings, appearances, games started, complete games and shutouts. The two are tied in strikeouts while Hammack leads the team in ERA.

The Huskies will face a Lamar University squad sitting at 26-20 after splitting a Tuesday home twin-bill with Tarleton State. The Cardinals are led by seventh-year Head Coach Amy Cook, and are 13-8 in the Southland following last weekend's three-game sweep of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

LU's offense is led by a quartet of players hitting .300 or better. Sophomore DP Veronica Harrison paces the club in batting average (.344), homers (7) and RBI (32), while senior second baseman Jayne Sepulveda is batting .323 with a team-best eight stolen bases along with 21 runs driven in. Junior third-sacker Trinity Brandon bats .314 with 26 RBI and Cala Wilson, a freshman first baseman, rounds out the group at .305 and 27 RBI which is second on the club.

The pitching staff has seen five hurlers make 10 appearances or more. Senior right-hander Mallory Pitre is 7-3 with a 3.86 ERA and three saves on the season, while junior right-hander Reagan Smith posts an 8-6 mark with a team-leading 86 innings pitched and 56 strikeouts.

After the series in Spindletop, the Huskies will have just four games remaining in the regular season.  A trip across town to face the University of Houston on Tuesday precedes next weekend's final home series. The Huskies will host East Texas A&M University on April 25 and 26 at Husky Field, with the Saturday finale being "Senior Day".
