HOUSTON – HCU head women's soccer coach
Nick Whiting released the Huskies' 2025 schedule on Tuesday afternoon with a slate that includes nine home games and a new Southland Conference schedule format.
"As a staff, we can't wait to get started again in the fall for our second year at HCU," said Whiting. "The players were tremendous this spring and we experienced so much growth – now we get to look at how that will look on the field. We have a tough non-conference schedule, but that will no doubt benefit us when it comes to Southland Conference play. We will see a variety of opponents, some familiar and some new, that will give us a look at different environments and styles of play."
The Huskies will kick things off with a home exhibition matchup against Sam Houston on Aug. 7 before opening the regular season on the road. HCU will first head across town for a game against Rice on Aug. 14 at Holloway Field before traveling to Stephenville, Texas for a Sunday, Aug. 17, match against Tarleton State after hosting the Texans in Houston last year.
HCU plays its home opener on Friday, Aug. 22 against Grambling followed by a shorter turnaround for a return game in Abilene, Texas against Abilene Christian two days later on Aug. 24. The Huskies will return home to host College of Charleston in the first-ever meeting between HCU and the Cougars on Thursday, Aug. 28, followed by a visit from Southern on Aug. 31. The next Thursday, Sep. 4, sees the Huskies head north Dallas to face SMU before closing out non-conference play with a home matchup against Prairie View on Sep. 11 before visiting Louisiana Tech on Sep. 14.
"The Southland keeps getting stronger and stronger and is full of a lot of good teams, coaches and players," Whiting added. "This change to Thursday and Sunday only emphasizes its growth and our standing nationally. While it will be new to the players, I think that extra day of rest is going to benefit everybody and play a key part in injury prevention. We emphasize the student-athletes here at HCU and the Southland and this is a great way to support them."
SLC play begins four days later when the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders come to Sorrels Field on Thursday, Sep. 18, with a week off before HCU heads east on I-10 to Beaumont, Texas to take on Lamar on Sep. 25. The Huskies then return home for their next two games, facing Northwestern State on Sep. 28 and UT Rio Grande Valley on Oct. 2.
HCU closes out the season with four of its last six matches on the road, beginning with a trip to Thibodaux, La. for a contest against Nicholls on Oct. 9. The Huskies will host UIW on the HCU campus on Oct. 12 before playing their next two away from home, first at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas on Oct. 19 before heading back to Louisiana to face Southeastern in Hammond on Oct. 23. The home finale is set for Sunday, Oct. 26, against McNeese before closing out the regular season in Commerce, Texas against East Texas A&M on Oct. 30.
The 2025 Southland Conference Tournament is set to take place in Beaumont, Texas this year and run from Tuesday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 9.
