BSB: Huskies Open SLC Play with Explosive Win Over UIW

Parker Edwards' two-homer performance powers HCU to a 14-10 victory in conference opener.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – HCU powered past UIW in a high-scoring battle, securing a 14-10 victory in Southland Conference action on Friday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

The Huskies (5-3) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Parker Edwards launching a two-run homer in the first inning to give HCU an early lead. Luke Bard extended the advantage in the third with a solo home run to left, making it 3-0.

UIW responded in the bottom of the third with back-to-back home runs from Thomas Lyssy and Rob Liddington, cutting the deficit to one. However, the Huskies kept their offense rolling in the fourth when Kenneth Dutka's RBI single helped push across two more runs.

After UIW's Rey Mendoza delivered a three-run homer in the fifth to pull the Cardinals within two, HCU broke the game open in the sixth. Jack Walker's two-run single and Edwards' second home run of the day—a two-run shot—gave the Huskies an 11-5 lead.

UIW managed to chip away with a solo homer from Ryder Hernandez in the seventh, but HCU tacked on three more runs in the eighth, capitalizing on a fielding error to extend their lead to 14-6.
The Cardinals attempted a late rally in the ninth, plating four runs, including a two-run triple from Liddington and an RBI double from Daniel Calabrese. However, the deficit proved too large to overcome as HCU held on for the win.

Edwards led the Huskies' offensive charge, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Walker added three RBIs, while Bard, Dutka, and Robert Oropeza each contributed key hits.

HCU improves to 1-0 in conference play and will look to carry their momentum into the next matchup against UIW on Saturday.
