BSB: Huskies Rally Late to Defeat ULM, Even Series

Halligan’s Go-Ahead Homer, Walker’s Clutch Hit Lift HCU to 6-3 Victory

MONROE, La. – The HCU baseball team rallied from an early deficit to secure a 6-3 victory over ULM on Saturday morning at Lou St. Amant Field.

The Huskies (4-2) found themselves trailing 3-0 after four innings after a ULM (4-2) home run in the first and a pair of unearned runs in the fourth.

HCU's offense ignited in the fifth inning when Matthew Leiterman led off with a double and later scored on a throwing error with two outs, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Kenneth Dutka followed with an RBI triple down the right-field line to score Trevor Roper from first, making it a one-run game.

In the sixth, Katcher Halligan delivered the go-ahead moment, launching a 382-foot two-run home run to right field that also scored Jack Walker and put the Huskies ahead, 4-3.

HCU added insurance in the seventh when Walker stepped up again, driving a two-out, two-run single to right field that plated Rhett Hendricks and Dutka, both of whom reached with two outs and executed a double steal to move into scoring position.

On the mound, Joshua Caravalho (2-0) earned the win with six innings of work, allowing three runs with just one earned. He scattered five hits while striking out four and not issuing a walk. Louis Castano pitched the final three frames without allowing a baserunner to earn the save.

The Huskies will close out the series against ULM on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Monroe.
