BSB: Huskies Secure 9-6 Victory Over Central Michigan

Bard Leads Offensive Surge as HCU Holds Off Late Rally

HOUSTON, Texas – HCU baseball closed out its series with Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon with a 9-6 victory at Husky Field.

The Huskies (3-1) took an early lead in the first inning, capitalizing on a pair of Central Michigan (1-3) errors. Luke Bard grounded out to second, scoring Kenneth Dutka, followed by Katcher Halligan scoring after a dropped fly ball in right field.

The Chippewas responded in the third, plating three runs to take a brief 3-2 lead. Kostic's single through the left side drove in two after Ball's RBI groundout. However, HCU answered immediately in the bottom half as Bard's single up the middle brought in two, putting the Huskies back on top, 4-3.

HCU extended its lead in the fourth with a four-run outburst. Dutka's RBI groundout scored Robert Oropeza before Bard struck again, delivering a two-run triple down the right-field line. A throwing error allowed Bard to cross the plate, giving the Huskies an 8-3 advantage.

Central Michigan chipped away in the sixth, closing the gap with a two-run double from Verburg and an RBI single from Henning, making it 8-5. HCU added an insurance run in the seventh when Oropeza singled in pinch runner Graham Laxton. The Chippewas threatened in the ninth, scoring an unearned run after a throwing error, but the Huskies held firm to secure the win.

Bard led the Huskies' offense with four RBIs, including a triple and a single. Halligan crossed the plate three times, while Oropeza contributed two hits and an RBI.

The Huskies will be back in action on Tuesday, February 18, traveling to Cleburne, Texas, to take on Tarleton State at 6 p.m.
