THIBODAUX, La. — THe HCU women's basketball team dropped its first Southland Conference game of the season on Thursday evening, falling 70–47 to the Nicholls Colonels at the David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
The Huskies (4-5, 2-1 SLC) opened the game by scoring on seven of their first 10 field goal attempts to keep pace early.
Grace Booth and
Jordan Jackson each converted baskets in the opening minutes as HCU stayed within striking distance through the first quarter, trailing 20-15 after the first 10.
Nicholls (5-4, 1-1 SLC) began to create separation in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers to outscore the Huskies, 18–4. The Colonels carried that momentum into halftime with a 38–19 advantage.
The Huskies trimmed their deficit to 12 in the third quarter but the hosts pushed their elad back to 20 early in the fourth and maintained a large advantage the rest of the way.
Booth led the Huskies with 11 points, while
Sidney Carr added nine off the bench. Jackson finished with eight points and four rebounds, and Hyams chipped in five. HCU shot 48.6 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range in the game. The Huskies were hurt by 25 turnovers and were out-rebounded by the Colonels, 29-22.
The Huskies return to action Saturday, Dec. 20, at to face Rice at 2:00 p.m. inside Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston.
