HOUSTON - Houston Christian Women's Basketball team was edged by Rice, 62–42, on Saturday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston.
The Huskies opened the game strong and stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 18–17 after the first quarter. Houston Christian and Rice traded leads multiple times in the opening quarter, with the Huskies attacking the paint and keeping pace through the first ten minutes.
Rice gained separation in the second quarter, outscoring HCU 12–7 to take a 30–24 advantage into halftime. The Owls extended their lead in the third quarter, holding the Huskies to six points while building momentum that carried into the final quarter.
HCU continued to battle through the fourth quarter, adding 12 points over the final ten minutes, but Rice maintained control down the stretch to secure the win.
Kamryn McLaurin led the Huskies with 10 points and nine rebounds, while
Grace Booth added nine points.
Jo Oly finished with eight points, and the Huskies totaled 38 rebounds in the game.
The huskies return home to continue Southland Conference play against McNeese on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. at Sharp Gym in Houston.
