WSOC: Remy’s Brace Leads HCU to 2-0 Win at East Texas A&M

Sophomore Ella Remy scores twice in the span of two minutes and HCU secures the No. 5 seed in the SLC Tournament

COMMERCE, Texas – HCU women's soccer closed out the regular season with a strong 2-0 shutout of East Texas A&M on Thursday night at Lion Soccer Field behind a pair of goals from Ella Remy, securing the No. 5 seed in the upcoming 2025 Southland Conference Tournament.

In a match where the Huskies (9-8-2, 4-4-2 SLC) dominated the first half and put 10 shots on goal to just four by the host Lions (7-7-4, 4-2-4 SLC), the teams went into the half knotted 0-0. Jasmine Diaz, Bella Alamo, Isaballa Dillow and Danika Etter all put shots on goal in the first half while HCU didn't allow a single attempt on target.

HCU broke through in the 62nd minute as the Huskies put pressure on with an Alamo shot getting deflected back to Remy who cleaned it up and sent the rebound into an empty goal.

Less than two minutes later, the Huskies were again putting pressure on the ETAMU defense. A ball into the box was cleared out by the Lions' defense but it fell right to the feet of Remy who lifted a shot to the top shelf and off the hands of ETAMU keeper Gillian McKenzie and falling just inside the right post for a 2-0 lead.

Emmy McKeon registered three saves over the final 26 minutes to preserve the shutout and the win.

Remy now has four goals in the last three games. Alamo's assist was her second of the year. In goal, McKeon finished with four saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

HCU's nine wins this season mark the most in a year since the 2018 Huskies finished with a 10-8-1 record.

The Huskies and Lions will face off in the first round of the SLC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Beaumont, Texas.
