NACOGDOCHES, Texas – HCU women's basketball dropped an 82-35 decision to the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks on Thursday evening at Johnson Coliseum in the Huskies' first road Southland Conference game of the year.
The Huskies (4-8, 1-2 SLC) fell into an early 10-0 hole with SFA (12-2, 2-1 SLC) guard Harmanie Dominguez accounting for eight of those points.
Kierra Prim knocked down a turnaround jumper at the 7:37 mark to get the Huskies on the board. Just over two minutes later,
Tove Caesar knocked down a jumper to bring the score to 14-6 but the hosts closed the first quarter with a 10-1 run to lead 24-7 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
Kendall Beck hit a two-point jumper to cut the HCU deficit back to 15 but that was the closest the Huskies would get the rest of the way.
HCU shot 25.9 percent (14-of-54) for the game while the Ladyjacks connected on 50 percent (32-of-64) from the floor. The Huskies were out-rebounded 46-29 in the loss and committed 20 turnovers while forcing just nine.
Erin Maguire led HCU with nine points, shooting 3-of-9 for the game and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Amy Cotton grabbed a team-best six rebounds while
Jo Oly added seven points.
HCU continues its two-game road trip this Saturday, Jan. 4, afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Beaumont against the Lamar Cardinals.
