HOUSTON – HCU aims to build off its first win of the season when the Huskies host UTEP in women's soccer action on Saturday evening at Sorrels Field at 7:00 p.m. in the team's home opener under first-year head coach
Nick Whiting. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
The Huskies (1-3) battled to a 2-1 road win this past Sunday, defeating Southern in Baton Rouge behind goals from
Emily Jaimes and
Alexia Murillo. Junior
Alexa Huerta scored a pair of goals and had one assist in two games last week, earning Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
UTEP (1-1-1) was scheduled to face Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, Aug. 28, but the game was cancelled due to poor field conditions in Nacogdoches. The Miners opened the season with a 0-0 draw on the road at Abilene Christian before downing fellow Southland Conference member Texas A&M-Commerce at home and falling to UC Riverside, 1-0, at home last Sunday, Aug. 25.
Saturday marks the seventh meeting between the two programs with UTEP holding a 5-1 advantage all-time. The Huskies, however, won the last meeting in a 3-2 overtime victory at Sorrels Field in 2015.
The Huskies will enjoy a week off before their next match, hosting the Abilene Christian Wildcats on campus at Sorrels Field on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1:00 p.m.
