NATCHITOCHES, Louisiana – The Huskies closed out the three-game conference series against Northwestern State getting run-ruled, 4-14, in the series finale to fall, 0-3, in the series.
After allowing an early run in the bottom of the first inning before giving up a trio of runs in the bottom of the third and fourth frames, Huskies entered the top of the sixth inning trailing, 0-8. After two quick outs from the Demons when
Trent Baker grounded into a double play,
Trevor Roper hit a single to right field before advancing to scoring position when
Samuel Benjamin drew a walk. HCU got on the board when
Tyler LaRue singled to center field scoring Roper. After three-up and three-down in the bottom of the frame, the Huskies started the top of the seventh inning with a single to center field off the bat of
William Jewell. After
Parker Edwards struck out swinging,
Luke Bard doubled down the right field line advancing Jewell to third base. Jewell scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Josh Prinner before Baker hit his second single of the game to left field to put runners on the corners. As Baker stole second, Bard scored on a throwing error by the Demons before Baker scored the final run for the Huskies on a Roper single up the middle. HCU allowed six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get run-ruled in seven innings, 4-14.
The Huskies (15-28, 6-12 SLC) were led by the top four hitters of the lineup, each tallying a multi-hit game. Roper and Baker both hit two singles going 2-for-4 with a run while Roper added an RBI. Benjamin and LaRue went 2-for-3 with a walk while LaRue notched an RBI. Bard was the only Husky to tag an extra-base hit going 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
Jackson Hamilton (1-2) was tagged with the loss pitching 2.2 innings to start the game, allowing four earned runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.
Ty Dagley was the only Husky to not allow an earned run pitching .1 innings of relief giving up a hit and a walk.
Northwestern State (18-26, 9-9 SLC) was led by Rocco Gump going 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs. Reese Lipoma went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs while Balin Valentine went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run and a walk. Dawson Flowers (2-3) earned the win pitching six innings to start the game, allowing two earned runs on six hits with a walk and a pair of strikeouts. Dylan Marionneaux tossed the final frame giving up two earned runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The Huskies continue their road stand traveling to Reno, Nevada to take on Nevada for a three-game series on Saturday (DH) and Sunday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.
