KERRVILLE, Texas – The Huskies compete in the 2024 Southland Conference Championship at the 7,253-yard, Commanche Trace Golf Club, for the 54-hole conference tournament on Monday-Wednesday. The Huskies finished in 10th place at the 2023 SLC Championship.

The Huskies return to the course for post-season play after capping off a successful regular season schedule claiming four top-10s and three top-5s. HCU concluded the regular season at the 2024 Koasati Pines Intercollege finishing in a tie for 4th place.

This week, the Huskies will send out a lineup of seniors Ben Caton and Cooper New, sophomore Mason Napier, and freshmen Brooks Pawlak and Benjamin Dabos. Sophomore Roy Barrera will travel with the team and be available as an alternate.

Ben Caton leads the Huskies claiming top-10s in his last two starts after finishing tied for 5th place at The Big Texan and tied for 8th place at the Koasati Pines Intercollegiate. The Scotland native has three top-10 and one top-5 finish in his Husky career. The senior has recorded nine-straight rounds of par or better in his last three starts including five-under par rounds during that stretch.

Cooper New claimed his best finish to-date of his Husky career this season at the 2023 La Tour Intercollegiate, finishing in a tie for 8th place. The senior has three top-10s in four-year stint with the Huskies and has tallied 20 rounds of par or better.

In his inaugural season as a member of the Huskies, Brooks Pawlak has made a name for himself at HCU. The freshman was the first Husky since Carlos Trevino in 2016 to claim an individual title, winning the 2023 La Tour Intercollegiate with an eight-under par total. The Kingwood native fired the lowest round of the year for the team with a seven-under par, 65, in the second round of the 2023 Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate and tallied five rounds in the 60s this season. Pawlak finished three tournaments under-par and fired 10 rounds of par or better this year.

Finding his form late this season, Benjamin Dabos claimed his best finish in his early Husky career last tournament, tied for 13th place at the Koasati Pines Intercollegiate. The freshman fired back-to-back rounds of two-under par, 70, on opening day, his lowest rounds of the season. The Argentina native has posted four rounds of par or better in his inaugural season including back-to-back rounds of even-par, 72, at The Big Texan last month.

Rounding out the Husky lineup, Mason Napier has carded three rounds in the 60s this year. With two top-20s in his two-year Husky career, the sophomore has five career rounds in the 60s and eight rounds of par or better. The Paris, Texas native fired a five-under par, 67, in the opening round of the 2023 La Tour Intercollegiate where he claimed his best finish of the season, tied for 18th place. Napier also claimed his lowest total finish of his Husky career at the 2023 Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate firing rounds of 69-75-71 to finish at one-under par for the week.

In his 17th season at the helm of the Husky program, David Shuster returns to the SLC Championship where he has had a lot of success.
