WACO, Texas – In a tightly contested matchup that was a one-run ball game through six innings, the Huskies allowed 10 runs in the final two innings to fall to the Bears, 13-5, in the midweek matchup at Baylor Ballpark.
The Huskies got on the board early when
Dylan LaRue hit a solo-shot down the right field line in the second at-bat of the ball game in the top of the first inning. HCU increased their lead to three-runs in the top of the second inning starting with
Ty Hodge reaching on a seven-pitch lead-off walk before advancing to third base on a single to left center off the bat of
Trent Baker. A sacrifice bunt by
Josh Prinner scored
Katcher Halligan before
Trevor Roper hit a single to center field scoring Halligan and giving the Huskies a, 3-0, lead. Baylor tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second inning before
Tyler LaRue hit a solo home run to left field in the first-pitch of his at-bat. Three shutout innings by both teams gave the Huskies a 4-3 lead through six innings. The Bears found a late inning spark tallying four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to close out the midweek matchup, 13-5.
HCU (9-19) was led by
Tyler LaRue going 2-for-4 with a home run while
Dylan LaRue went 2-for-5 with a homer.
Trent Baker went 2-for-4 with two singles and
Josh Prinner went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Jonathan Valdez (0-2) was tagged with the loss giving up two earned runs on two walks in his only two batter faced.
Ethan Coronel started the game for the Huskies pitching one inning allowing two earned runs on no hits with three walks. Nicholas Williard pitched three shutout innings of relief with six strikeouts after
Jackson Hamilton pitched one shutout inning of relief with a strikeout. Nine Husky pitchers saw action in the midweek matchup with
Nolan Wilson pitching the final .2 shutout innings of the game with a strikeout.
Baylor (11-17) was led by Hunter Teplanszky going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and RBIs and a walk. Tyriq Kemp went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs while Daniel Altman went 1-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, two runs and a walk. Ethan Calder (3-1) earned the win pitching two shutout innings of relief with a strikeout. RJ Ruais started the game for the Bears pitching two innings allowing three earned runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Six Baylor pitchers saw actions in the midweek matchup with three pitchers tossing a combined five shutout innings of relief with nine total strikeouts.
The Huskies will return home after a five-game road trip to take on New Orleans in a three-game conference series at Husky Field on Friday – Sunday.
