Box Score HOUSTON, Texas – The Huskies rallied with late runs but couldn't recover from big early deficit falling in the series finale, 10-6, at Reckling Park. HCU tallied 16 runs to the Owls 27 runs in three-game series getting swept in the final non-conference series before Southland play starts next weekend.
After allowing nine runs over the first two innings to start game three, the Huskies got on the board with a lead-off home run to center field off the bat of
Luke Bard in the top of the third inning. HCU added another run in the top of the fourth inning when
Tyler LaRue crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by
Katcher Halligan to narrow the gap to seven runs at 9-2. The Owls increased their lead back to eight runs posting a run in the bottom of the fifth inning before the Huskies continued to minimize the deficit posting two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Dylan LaRue scored on a single up the middle off the bat of Bard to get within six runs at 4-10. A late inning hiccup by the Owls in the top of the eighth inning when
Tyler LaRue scored on a passed ball narrowed the margin to five runs. Down 5-10 heading into the final frame,
Ty Hodge led the top of the ninth inning off with a double down the left field line before
Samuel Benjamin was hit by pitch. The Huskies drove in Hodge with a single to center field by
Trevor Roper to cap off the series falling 6-10 in game three.
HCU (7-14) was led by Bard going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, a run and a walk. Four Huskies tallied a multi-hit game including Benjamin, Roper, and
Dylan LaRue.
Tyler LaRue tallied three runs going 1-for-3 with a double and two walks.
Jett Feltman (2-2) was tagged with the loss starting the game pitching 1.1 innings and allowing six earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
Jarek Wells pitched three innings of relief allowing one earned run on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts while
Zach Ryan pitched a shutout inning of relief with one walk to close out the series finale.
Rice (8-11) was led by Nathan Becker going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs, two runs and two walks. Jack Riedel went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, an RBI and a walk while Kyte McDonald went 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBIs and runs. Mauricio Rodriguez (1-0) secured his first win of the season pitching 2.1 innings of relief allowing one run, no earned runs, on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Davion Hickson notched back-to-back saves pitching one shutout inning of relief with a strikeout. Tucker Alch started the game for the Owls pitching one shutout innings with one hit.
The Huskies will open conference play with a three-game home series against conference rival, Lamar, at Husky field on March 22
