Kierra Prim leads the Huskies with 10 points

LUBBOCK, Texas – In its second game against a Big 12 opponent in three days, the HCU women's basketball team dropped a 63-40 final at United Supermarkets Arena on Thursday evening.

Senior Kierra Prim led the Huskies (0-2) with 10 points, connecting on 5-of-10 from the floor while also pulling down four rebounds. Fellow senior Tiffany Tullis ended the night with seven points and nine rebounds while Jo Oly followed up her 10-rebound effort on opening night with seven boards. Victoria Dixon scored eight for the huskies and freshman Madelyne Davis added six.

HCU, after out-rebounding TCU by 14 on Tuesday, held a 35-33 advantage on the boards over the Lady Raiders (2-0). The Huskies shot 33.3 percent (16-of-48) from the field but managed just 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from three. Texas Tech, meanwhile, connected on 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the floor.

Prim opened the game's scoring with a layup before the hosts scored the next five points. Amy Cotton hit a jumper to cut it to a 5-4 game. The Lady Raiders pushed their lead to eight twice in the first quarter but a Victoria Dixon layup late in the quarter brought the score to 16-10.

Tullis scored first in the second quarter, dropping a layup in, and after TTU answered with two points Oly hit a three to pull the Huskies back to within three, 18-15. The Lady Raiders went on a 7-0 run and took a 29-22 lead at the half.

The Huskies came out firing in the second half with Prim knocking down shots on the team's first two possessions before Erin Maguire made a pair of free throws the next time down the floor for a 29-28 ballgame less than two minutes into the half. Texas Tech clamped down on the Huskies after that, keeping HCU off the board for nearly five minutes while making an 11-0 run. From there, the Lady Raiders led by double-figured the rest of the way.

Jasmin Shavers led all players with 17 points with Sarengbe Sanogo adding 12 and Bailey Maupin scoring 10.

HCU will be at home on Monday, Nov. 11, for an exhibition against Concordia (TX) inside Sharp Gym at 6:00 p.m.
