MGOLF: Huskies Finish Bayou City Collegiate Classic in 8th Place

HCU posts two rounds under par, led by Pawlak’s top-20 finish.

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU men's golf team wrapped up its third tournament of the fall season, finishing 8th at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic. The three-round event, hosted by Rice University at Westwood Country Club, saw two rounds under par for the Huskies, along with one top-20 individual finisher. Sam Houston State claimed the tournament title with an impressive -27 total.

Leading the way for the Huskies was Brooks Pawlak, who placed 16th with a -4 total. Pawlak had a strong opening day, shooting -1 and -4 in his first two rounds. Today, he carded a +1, struggling on the front nine with three bogeys and one birdie but recovering on the back nine with three consecutive birdies on holes 11, 12, and 13 to post a 35.

Junior Roy Barrera
delivered a standout final round, climbing 13 spots from his first day's position. His rounds of +3, -3, and -2 brought him to a 23rd-place finish. Barrera's consistent play today resulted in a pair of 35s on both the front and back nine, with two birdies on each.

Junior Mason Napier had a solid start with rounds of +1 and even par but struggled in the final round, posting a +7 to finish at +8 overall, placing 57th. Napier's front nine was steady, with two birdies and six pars, but a pair of double bogeys on holes 14 and 15 proved costly on the back nine.

Freshman Brendon Willey
ended the tournament in 68th place with a +12 total. His rounds of +2, +4, and +6 included one birdie today on the par-5 12th hole and 11 pars in total.

Sophomore Benjamin Dabos
was forced to withdraw from the second round due to illness but returned for the final day, completing his round with a score of 74, which included two birdies and a streak of seven consecutive pars.

Up next, the Huskies will head to Matthews, Louisiana, to compete in the La Tour Intercollegiate, scheduled for October 21-22.
