HOUSTON – HCU women's soccer came out on the wrong end of a 5-1 decision on Thursday evening to the Houston Cougars at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
The Cougars (6-0-1) struck early with Cameryn Maddox staking UH to a 1-0 lead in the second minute. Maddox then wasted little time in making it a brace, scoring her second goal less than nine minutes later with an assist from Caitlyn Matthews. UH added a third goal shortly before the half to make it 3-0 at the half.
Early in the second half, the Cougars netted two more goals in just over three minutes of play. HCU (1-4) sophomore
Alexa Huerta was fouled inside the 18-yard box at the 65:04 mark and converted her penalty kick attempt just inside the right post.
UH held a 22-6 advantage in shots with 10 attempts on target. Along with Huerta's goal, she had another shot on goal while the Huskies' other two shots on goal came from
Olivia Rossman and
Juliana Anchondo.
HCU remains in town for its next matchup, a Sunday, Sep. 10, meeting with TSU at Durley Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
