HOUSTON – The HCU women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over Texas Southern at Durley Stadium on Sunday evening to wrap up non-conference play and head into the Southland Conference schedule on the right foot.
During the early-going, HCU (2-4) had opportunities with five attempts on goal while
Taylor Sanderson made a save on the lone TSU (0-8) shot on target. The Huskies broke through for their first goal during the 35
th minute when
Kat Lazor directed a pass to
Katie Marker in the middle of the field and she quickly sent it ahead to
Adi Radwanski. A TSU defender stepped up and tried to intercept the pass but was unable to control it with Radwanski taking control and darting past the TSU defense and sneaking a shot past a charging keeper just inside the right post.
HCU picked up goal number two in the 53
rd minute when a long cross into the box from
Lauren Avila landed at the feet of
Olivia Rossman who knocked it past the TSU keeper. The Huskies kept the pressure on, attempting a season-high 28 shots with 14 on goal, but Jaidyn Christophe registered 12 saves for the Tigers.
The Huskies limited the hosts to just one shot on goal among 10 total attempts and held a 4-1 advantage in corners earned. Sanderson, making her first start of the season, earned the win in goal for HCU.
Southland Conference play begins next Sunday, Sep. 17, with a visit from the Nicholls Colonels to Sorrels Field at 1:00 p.m.
