Katie Marker scores her second goal of the season

BEAUMONT, Texas – The HCU women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision on Friday evening to Lamar at the LU Soccer Complex in the Huskies' first road Southland Conference matchup of the season.

HCU (3-5, 1-1 SLC) fell behind the Cardinals (7-2-1, 2-0 SLC) early when LU's Alana Clark made it a 1-0 game in the eighth minute. Arely Alaniz made it a two-goal game less than five minutes later with an assist from Hollie Massey in the 12th minute. The Huskies' Alexa Huerta put a shot attempt on target, the team's only shot on goal of the half, but Lamar's Nicole Panis made the save. At the 30:19 mark, LU's Isela Ramirez made it 3-0 for a three-goal Cardinals' lead at the half.

The Cardinals increased their lead to four with a goal Kamryn Harvey in the 75th minute. HCU go ton the board at the 76:00 mark when Katie Marker sent a header to the back post off a corner kick from Alexia Murillo that bounced off a Lamar defender and past Panis. The goal is the second of the season for Marker while Murillo's assist is the first of her career.
