WGOLF: Huskies Finish 10th at MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial

Huskies open fall campaign with top-ten finish; Parel finished in top-20 individually.

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – HCU capped off the season opener at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial with a 10th place finish following rounds of 301, 290, and 305 to finish 32-over par. After a tough start to the 36-hole opening day resulting in a 13-over par round one, the Huskies bounced back with a two-over par second round finishing day one in a tie for 9th place. HCU closed out the tournament with a 17-over par final round to finish in 10th.

The Huskies were led by Elise Parel who fired rounds of even par, 72, three-over par, 75, and one-over par, 73. Parel racked up 13 total birdies including four birdies in each round on day one and five birdies in the closing round. The graduate senior led the Huskies in par-4 scoring with a 3.97 average, one-under par on par-4's, and finished the tournament in a tie for 17th place at four-over par.

Junior Lou Rousselot carded rounds of two-over par, 74, one-under par, 71, and six-over par, 78, to finish in a tie for 23rd place individually. The Saint Tropez, France native led the team for the week with 37 total pars, six birdies, and recorded the sole eagle for the Huskies during the opening round at the par-5, 10th hole.

Alejandra Ferrer got off to a rough start posting an eight-over par, 80, in the opening round. The sophomore quickly rebounded with back-to-back rounds of even par, 72, to close out the season opener in a tie for 29th place. Ferrer recorded the fifth most birdies in the field, 12 in total, including six in the second round and four in the final round.

Senior Lucia Allub kicked off her senior campaign with a three-over par, 75, even par, 72, and 10-over par, 82, resulting in a tie for 42nd place. The Rio Ceballos, Argentina native tallied six birdies on opening day including back-to-back birdies at the 10th and 11th in round one, and three birdies in her final five holes of round two. Allub finished the season opener tied for 6th in par-5 scoring with a 4.83 average.

Junior Jackie Nguyen rounded out the Huskies' lineup recording rounds of eight-over par, 80, 11-over par, 83, and 16-over par, 88, to finish in a tie for 93rd place. Nguyen totaled four birdies for the tournament, including two in the opening round at the par-5, 10th hole, and the par-3, 17th hole.

The Huskies will continue the fall schedule at the Red Raider Invitational hosted by Texas Tech on Monday, Sep. 25th and Tuesday, Sep. 26th at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.
