WAIPAHU, Hawaii – The HCU women's soccer team dropped its season opener on Thursday at the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff held at Hawaii's Waipio Peninsula Stadium, falling 3-0 to Gonzaga.
The Bulldogs (1-0) found the net on their first shot attempt with Kate Doyle scoring in the 17
th minute. Gonzaga added its second goal just over eight minutes later off the foot of Katelyn Rigg with an assist by Marissa Garcia. Sophomore
Alexa Huerta recorded the first shot on goal for the Huskies (0-1) in the 35
th minute. Gonzaga then took a 3-0 lead into the half with a 41
st minute Shelby Runje goal.
Less than four minutes into the second half, sophomore
Jordan Bushnell tested keeper Faith Fenwick to the bottom left corner but the Bulldogs' keeper kept it out of the net. The HCU defense allowed just one Gonzaga shot on goal in the second half with goalkeeper
Chloe Bagshaw making the stop.
The Bulldogs held a 14-7 advantage in shots attempted, putting four on goal while the Huskies put two attempts on target. HCU earned two corner kicks while conceding five.

Juliana Anchondo each recorded two shot attempts for the Huskies.
HCU will remain in Hawaii to face former Great West rival Utah Valley on Sunday, Aug. 20, at 6:30 p.m. CT.
