BSB: Huskies Fall to UNO in Game Three, 10-6

Reed Chumley led Huskies in Game Three with a double, two runs, and two walks.

NEW ORLEANS, La –The Huskies fall to New Orleans in game three, 10-6, giving the Privateers a 2-1, series victory.

The Huskies (11-32, 7-11 SLC) were led by junior third baseman Reed Chumley who went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two walks. Senior shortstop Austin Roccaforte went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a stolen base while freshman catcher Dylan LaRue went 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk. Senior rightfielder Logan Letney went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, a run, and a walk. Freshman righthander Jonathan Valdez (0-3) took the loss for the Huskies, pitching 3.1 innings of relief allowing one earned run with a walk and two strikeouts. Graduate student righthander Walker Zander started the game, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on three hits with five walks and a strikeout. Junior righthander Chad Ricker and senior lefthander Tim Ewald each pitched a shutout inning of relief with a strikeout.

New Orleans (28-20, 9-9 SLC) were led by Isaac Williams who went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Tristan Moore went 2-for-3 with a two home runs, three RBIs, and three runs. Max Dias went 1-for-2 with a double, three runs, and RBI, and two walks. Righthander Caleb Seroski (1-0) earned the win for the Privateers, pitching 2.1 shutout innings of relief giving up three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Righthander Jacob Mead notched the save, pitching three shutout innings of relief giving up one hit with three strikeouts. Lefthander Tyler LaBlanc pitched 2.2 innings to start the game allowing six earned runs on five hits with four walks and a strikeout.

The Huskies posted four runs and took a 4-2 lead in the top of the second inning starting with Reed Chumley scoring on a Logan Letney single through the right side before Dylan LaRue scored on a sac fly off the bat of Trent Baker. Austin Roccaforte singled to left field driving in Letney and Diego Davila to round out the half inning. HCU tied the game, 6-6, in the top of the third inning after posting two runs. Chumley scored on an RBI walk from Letney before Davila hit a sac fly to left field scoring Dylan LaRue.

The Privateers took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Tristan Moore hit a home run to right field scoring Kasten Furr. New Orleans retook the lead in the bottom of the second inning posting four runs to take a, 6-4, lead. Isaac Williams hit a three-run home run to left center scoring Max Dias and Dylan Mach before Moore hit his second home run of the day to right field. The Privateers took a, 7-6, lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Miguel Useche singled up the middle scoring Moore. New Orleans added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Williams singled through the right-side scoring Dias. The Privateers posted their last two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning when Mach scored on a double to left center off the bat of Dias before scoring on a wild pitch.

The Huskies will return home for a three-game conference series against SLU on Friday, May 12th through Sunday, May 14th at Husky Field.
