HOUSTON, TX –The Huskies fall to SLU in double-header on Friday, May 12
th at Reckling Park. HCU edged by the Lions in game one, 5-4, before SLU held onto an early lead in game two to knock off the Huskies, 9-5.
The Huskies (11-34, 7-13 SLC) were led by junior designated hitter
Samuel Benjamin who went 5-for-8 on the day with a home run, three runs, an RBI, and a walk. Freshman catcher/leftfielder
Dylan LaRue went 4-for-9 on the day with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs, and a run. Junior third baseman
Reed Chumley went 3-for-4 in game one with a home run, an RBI, a run, and a walk. Senior first baseman
Tyler LaRue went 2-for-4 in game two with a home run, two runs, an RBI, and a walk.
Junior righthander
Rye Gunter (1-4) took the loss in game one, pitching seven innings to start the game giving up five earned runs six hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Senior righthander
Will Ripoll and junior lefthander
Tim Ewald combined for two shutout innings of relief with no hits allowed and Ripoll recorded two strikeouts. Senior righthander
Chad Ricker (1-1) took the loss in game two, pitching 1.2 innings to start the game giving up five runs, three earned runs, on five hits with a walk. Graduate student righthander
Walker Zander pitched five innings of relief allowing one run, no earned runs, on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Southeastern Louisiana (21-25, 6-14 SLC) were led by T.J. Salvaggio who went 4-for-8 on the day with four runs and a stolen base. Rhett Rosevear went 3-for-7 on the day with three RBIs, two runs, and three walks. Tyler Finke went 2-for-4 in game one with a home run and three RBIs before Champ Artigues went 3-for-4 in game two with a double, two RBIs, a run, and a stolen base.
Righthander Will Kinzeler (5-1) earned the win in game one, pitching six innings to start the game giving up four earned runs on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Righthander Connor Spencer notched the save, pitching .2 shutout innings of relief. Righthander Brennan Stuprich (4-5) earned the win in game two, pitching five innings to start the game giving up five earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Lefthander Adam Guth notched the save in game two, pitching four shutout innings of relief with a walk and three strikeouts.
The Huskies will conclude the three-game Southland Conference series against SLU at Husky Field on Saturday, May 13
th at 1 p.m.
