ABILENE, Texas – HCU come from behind to knock off ACU, 8-7, in the final game of four-game series at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Tx.
Junior shortstop Diego Davilla went 3-for-5 with two homeruns, a double, five RBIs, and two runs for the Huskies (1-11). Junior center fielder
Samuel Benjamin continued his hot streak going 2-for-4 with a homerun, three RBIs, two runs, and a walk while freshman infielder
Cash Benavidez went 1-for-4 with a run.
Senior righthander
Chad Ricker (1-1) earned the win pitching three shutout innings of relief with six strikeouts. Freshman righthander
Daniel Farrow and senior righthander
Javan Smitherman each pitched a shutout inning of relief with one strikeout.
HCU scored a run in the top of the first when Diego Davilla hit a solo homerun to get the Huskies on the board. The Huskies added three runs in the fifth inning when Davilla doubled to left center scoring
Samuel Benjamin,
Trent Baker, and
Luke Bard. HCU tied the game in the top of the ninth inning when
Samuel Benjamin hit a three-run homerun scoring
Logan Letney and
Cash Benavidez. The next at bat, Diego Davilla hit a solo homerun on a 3-2 count to give HCU the lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning.
Miller Ladusau went 1-for-2 with a triple, three runs, and three walks for the Wildcats (10-3). Logan Britt went 0-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and a walk. Tanner Tweedt went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, a run, and a walk. Drake Boggan (1-1) took the loss with a blown save giving up four earned runs on three hits with a walk in .1 innings of relief in the ninth inning.
ACU scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning when Tanner Tweedt hit an RBI double to left field scoring Ladusau. Grayson Tatrow followed up with a SAC fly to center field scoring Logan Britt. The Wildcats added four runs in the bottom of the second inning when Tanner Tweedt recorded an RBI walk scoring Maddox Miesse before Tatrow doubled to left center scoring Tweedt, Britt, and Ladusau. ACU scored there last run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Britt hit a SAC fly to left field scoring Ladusau.
HCU will return to Houston to take on Rice in a three-game series at Reckling Park, Friday, March 10
th, through Sunday, March 12
