ABILENE, Texas – HCU bested by ACU in Saturday's double-header at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Tx. The Huskies fell the first game 12-6, and made a late run in the second game, but couldn't make up the run difference to fall, 9-5.
Junior center fielder
Samuel Benjamin went 4-for-8 on the day with a homerun, an RBI, and two runs for the Huskies (0-11). Freshman catcher/third baseman
Luke Bard went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a walk while freshman first baseman
Dylan LaRue went 2-for-6 with a homerun, three RBIs, two runs, and a walk.
Senior righthander Mathew Charles (0-1) took the loss in game one, giving up six runs, five earned, on six hits, and a strikeout in 1.1 innings for HCU. Graduate student righthander
Walker Zander (0-3) took the loss starting game two for the Huskies, giving up eight runs, six earned, on seven hits and five strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work. Junior righthander
Jarek Wells pitched 2.2 shutout innings of relief in game one giving up four hits with two strikeouts. Senior lefthander
Bryce Toney pitched 1.1 shutout innings of relief in game two dishing out three strikeouts with a walk.
HCU got off to a hot start in game one scoring five runs in the first three innings.
Luke Bard hit a two RBI single to right center in the top of the second inning scoring

Grayson Tatrow went 5-for-8 with seven RBIs and a grand slam for the Wildcats (10-2). Garrett Williams went 5-for-8 with four runs and two RBIs while Eric Martin went 3-for-7 with four runs. Reliever Luke Krkovski (1-0) earned the win in game one pitching 3.2 innings recording two runs, two earned, on two hits with two walks and a strikeout. Starting pitcher Breck Eichelberger (1-0) earned the win in game two pitching five innings giving up one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
ACU scored six runs in the first two innings of game one thanks to a pair of RBI singles by Garrett Williams and Miller Ladusau leading to them scoring on a pair of HBPs from HCU's
Jonathan Valdez. The Wildcats added four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning of game one when Eric Martin scored on a fielder's choice, Crew Parke scored on a SAC fly, and Ladusau and Williams scored on a single up the middle by Tanner Tweedt. ACU secured game two with a seven run fifth inning starting with a two RBI triple to right center by Logan Britt scoring Williams and Parke before Tatrow hit a grand slam scoring Maddox Miesse, Eric Martin, and Bash Randle.
HCU will conclude the four-game series against ACU on Sunday, March 5
th, at 1:05 p.m. with freshman righthander
