HOUSTON, Texas – HCU won a 6-5 ballgame in the final game of a three-game series against North Dakota State on Sunday at Husky Field.
Junior center fielder
Samuel Benjamin went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run for the Huskies (2-17). Redshirt junior
Reed Chumley went 2-for-4 with two runs while freshman right fielder
Damian Ruiz went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman catcher
Dylan LaRue also went 2-for-4 with one run.
Senior righthander
Chad Ricker (2-2) earned the win pitching .2 shutout innings of relief with a strikeout and a walk for HCU. Junior righthander
Zach Ryan notched the save pitching .2 innings of relief in the ninth inning. Senior righthander
Will Ripoll started the game pitching six innings allowing one earned run on 10 hits, three walks, recording three strikeouts on 114 pitches.
HCU scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning when
Parker Edwards scored on a ground ball to third base off the bat of
Trent Baker. The Huskies added another run in the bottom of the fourth when
Damian Ruiz hit a single to right center scoring
Reed Chumley. HCU added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning starting with a two RBI double from
Samuel Benjamin scoring
Trent Baker and
Dylan LaRue before Benjamin scored on a single to right field from
William Jewell. The Huskies regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning when
Parker Edwards hit a sac fly to center field scoring Chumley to take a, 6-5, lead.
Peter Brookshaw went 3-for-5 with a two RBI home run for the Bison. Druw Sackett went 2-for-3 with two runs while Cadyn Schwabe went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a walk, a strikeout, and a stolen base. Jack Steil went 2-for-5 with a double.
NDSU went five scoreless innings before getting on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Kyle Law scored on a single down the left field line by Cadyn Schwabe. The Bison added another run in the top of the seventh inning when Will Busch doubled to right center scoring Druw Sackett. NDSU scored their final three runs in the top of the eighth inning starting with a homerun to right field off the bat of Peter Brookshaw before Sackett scored on a double to right field by Carson Hake.
HCU will return to action for a non-conference midweek matchup against Texas State in San Marcos, Tx at Bobcat Stadium on Wednesday, March 22
nd at 6 p.m. The Huskies will then head to San Antonio to take on UIW in their conference opener on Friday, March 24.
