WBB: Maguire Sets Career High in Husky Loss

Maguire and Wilson combine for 34 of the teams 46 points

THIBODAUX, Louisiana – HCU women's basketball split the season series with the Nicholls Colonels, losing 64-46, Saturday afternoon.

HCU's (11-17, 6-11 SLC) second half shooting struggles against McNeese carried over into the first half of their game this afternoon. Nicholls jumped out to a 12-0 lead seven minutes into the game before Julija Vujakovic got the Huskies on the board with a made free-throw. After a pair of Colonels (5-23, 2-15) free throws, Enya Maguire then made a pull up mid-range jumper, the Huskies first of the afternoon. Vujakovic made a jumper before the period ended with Nichols leading 19-5.

Maguire opened the second quarter with a made three pointer to get the Huskies within 11. Nicholls responded with a pair of made buckets which Vujakovic answered with a couple of made free-throws. A bucket at the 4:37 mark of the first half jump started a 12-6 Nicholls run and went to halftime leading 35-16.

HCU came out better in the second half but were unable to cut any further into the lead that the Colonels built in the second half. Kennedy Wilson had a big third quarter, finishing with seven points including a made three-pointer. HCU outscored Nicholls in the fourth quarter, but the 21-point deficit they faced proved to be too much to overcome.

Maguire tied her season high with 19 points, four rebounds, and two assists, including a career high five made three pointers. Wilson finished with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Vujakovic finished with seven points and led HCU in steals with five and blocks with two. Five Colonels finished in double-figures, led by Adrian Mann and Kyla Hamilton each with 15.

HCU returns home for senior day, their final game of the year, Wednesday evening against the Southeastern Lady Lions. Husky seniors will be honored during halftime of the men's game which will tipoff 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game.
