HOUSTON – HCU women's basketball returns home following a two-game road trip to welcome the newest member of the Southland Conference, Texas A&M Commerce, Thursday night in Sharp Gym. The Game can be watched live on ESPN+ with play-by-play from Garrett Jones and commentary from Hall of Fame coach Van Chancellor.

HCU (7-7, 2-1 SLC) is coming off of a .500 road trip which saw them lose to Southeastern before beating New Orleans for the second time in a week. The Huskies found themselves in a hole as soon as the game tipped off against SLU. After being down by as many as 24, the Huskies clawed all the way back to make it a game. With a minute left in the game HCU had a chance to tie the game and send it to overtime but SLU prevailed.

After their slow start against SLU the Huskies responded by beating New Orleans a few days later. After tying things up a few possessions into the game, the Huskies maintained the lead the rest of the way.

Marilyn Nzoiwu and N'Denasija Collins are coming off excellent performances in back-to-back games. Nzoiwu set her career mark in points against SLU with 16 before posting a 15-point 13-rebound double-double against the Privateers. Collins had a 12 point and eight rebound performance against SLU before posting her third double-double of the year with 18 points and 12 rebounds against UNO. It was also the fifth time she has scored 16 or more points this season.

Collins leads HCU in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game and is pulling in a career high 7.1 rebounds per game. Julija Vujakovic is averaging 11.8 ppg. Nzoiwu and Kennedy Wilson each add eight ppg while Enya Maguire is knocking down three pointers at a 47-percent clip off the bench (22-for-47) for the Huskies.

Texas A&M Commerce (5-10, 3-0 SLC) is tied atop the Southland standings in their first season as a DI program. After opening the season 3-0 the Lions lost 11 of their next 12 games. The Lions faced some of the same non-conference opponents as the Huskies including Texas and Arlington Baptist.

Dyani Robinson, who has a SLC Player of the Week award to her name, is averaging a tick under 18 points per game for the Lions while knocking down 36-percent of her shots from the field. Laila Lawrence is the only other Lion averaging double-figures with 10.7 ppg and is second on the team in rebounding, reeling in just over six per game.

HCU heads to Lake Charles this weekend to take on McNeese at 1 pm on Saturday.
