BSB: HBU Falls in Wild Finish to Southeastern, 18-15

Senior 2B Jake Miller goes 3-for-5 with a home run, double, four RBIs and three runs

HAMMOND, La. – Trailing 13-4 after the sixth, HBU rallied for 10 runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead, but Southeastern got a walk-off, three-run home run from Shea Thomas to escape with an 18-15 win to clinch the Southland Conference series Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
Senior second baseman Jake Miller was 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs, while sophomore catcher Parker Edwards went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs, two RBIs and two runs for the Huskies (18-30, 11-9 SLC). Junior third baseman Reed Chumley was 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and scored twice and junior shortstop Diego Davila was 2-for-6 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs. Junior first baseman Brennen Bales drove in a pair and junior rightfielder Logan Letney was 2-for-6 with an RBI and scored twice.
 
Bales (0-1) also took the loss on the mound, giving up three runs on one hit in one-third of an inning. Starter Jared Burch allowed six run, five earned, on six hits with five strikeouts and a walk in four innings.
 
Thomas went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, seven RBIs and a run, while Preston Faulkner went 3-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and four runs for the Lions (21-25, 11-9). Tyler Finke was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and four runs. Evan Keller, Rhett Rosevear, Christian Garcia and Bryce Grizzaffi each scored twice.
 
Gage Trahan (3-3) picked up the win, holding HBU scoreless in the ninth. Starter Hunter O'Toole allowed four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 5.1 innings, then Hayden Robb gave up six runs  on three hits in one inning of relief.
 
HBU scored the first run of the game on Edwards' leadoff home run in the third, but Southeastern scored a pair in the fifth on an RBI single by Finke and a sacrifice fly by Thomas to take the lead.
 
The Lions scored six in the fifth, then five more in the sixth to lead 13-4.
 
In the seventh, Miller got the scoring started with a two-run home run to right. With the bases loaded, junior leftfielder Connor Fremin walked, junior centerfielder Austin Roccaforte walked, then Bales' two-run single made the score 13-10. Letney doubled in a run, then Miller came through with a two-run double to tie the game, 13-13. Junior Dawson Woods delivered an RBI single to put the Huskies ahead, 14-13.
 
Edwards added another solo home run in the eighth, but Faulkner's RBI double and Tristan Welch's sacrifice fly knotted the score back up, 15-15.
 
Finke drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth, then stole second and Faulkner was intentionally walked before Thomas' homer.
 
The series concludes with a 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday.
