HAMMOND, La. – No. 2 Southeastern Louisiana used a four-run seventh to pull away from No. 6 HBU for a 10-4 win to eliminate the Huskies from the Southland Conference Tournament Friday afternoon at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Junior first baseman
Brennen Bales went 3-for-4 with two home runs, while junior designated hitter
Tyler LaRue went 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Huskies (18-36). Junior rightfielder
Logan Letney was 2-for-4 and senior centerfielder
Lane Botkin tripled and scored.
Senior righthander
Jared Burch (1-5) took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
Rhett Rosevear was 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, four RBIs and scored twice and Preston Faulkner was 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs for the Lions (25-28). Evan Keller was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and scored four times, while Christian Garcia was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Adam Guth (4-1) picked up the win, allowing three runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and a walk in seven innings.
SELA took the lead on Garcia's doubled to rightcenter in the top of the second. The Lions added another run in the third when Keller walked, went to second on a passed ball, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. SELA took a 3-0 lead when Garcia came through again with an RBI single in the fourth.
HBU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Miller.
The Lions answered with Rhett Rosevear's two-run home run to right in the top of the fifth to lead, 5-1.
Bales homered hit a solo shot to left in the sixth.
SELA came back with four more in the seventh, including another two-run homer by Rosevear, then Faulkner made it back-to-back with a solo shot.
After Botkin led off the eighth with a triple to rightcenter, Bales blasted a two-run home run to left, his third of the tournament.
Keller led off the ninth with a solo home run to leftcenter, then Faulkner tacked on an RBI single and Leavengood a sacrifice fly.
The Huskies' season comes to an end, while the Lions will face the loser between New Orleans and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday.
