BSB: Huskies Walk-Off on Colonels to Even Series

Diego Davila walks it off in the bottom of the ninth

HOUSTON – Diego Davila sent a deep single to left center field with two outs in the ninth inning to walk it for the Huskies against the Nicholls Colonels Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.

Brennan Bales had the hot bat this afternoon for HBU (10-21, 4-4 SLC), going 4-for-5 while driving in three runs. Kevin Ortiz and Caleb Muton each recorded two hits for the Huskies while Austin Roccaforte and Muton each scored twice.

Andrew Reitmeyer picked up his second win on the season. He relieved Tim Ewald in the ninth and worked out of a two on and one out jam, getting a strikeout and forcing a ground out to end the inning.

Roccaforte led off the top of the ninth with a walk before Ortiz layed down a perfect sacrifice bunt down the first base line to advance him to second. After a Colonels (17-12, 5-3 SLC) Bales came to the dish and tied the game up with an RBI single down the left field line. With one out, Parker Edwards hit a slow roller to short and advanced the runner but was out at first. Lane Botkin came into the game as a pinch runner for Bales with two outs. After a Munton walk, Davila came to the dish and sent a deep fly ball into left center field which dropped between the outfielders for a hit and a walk-off RBI.

For the Colonels, Xane Washington and Parker Caddou each had two hits while Washington and Hunter LeBlanc each went deep. Brandon Andrews picked up his first loss on the season after coming in relief of Devin Desandro.

Tyler Zarella was the bridge between Husky starter Jared Burch and the back end of the bullpen, allowing just one hit and striking out three over 3.2 scoreless innings.

The Huskies and Colonels will face off in the rubber game of the series Sunday afternoon at Husky Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:02 p.m. and all of the action can be watched live on ESPN+.
