EAST LANSING, Mich. – HBU scored three in the second, but Michigan State chipped away to tie, before Dillon Kark's walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth gave the Spartans a 4-3 victory in the series opener Friday afternoon at McLane Stadium.
Junior catcher
Parker Edwards homered and drove in a pair, while junior rightfielder
Logan Letney went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run for the Huskies (6-13). Senior second baseman
Jake Miller went 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run.
Junior righthander
Daxton Tinker took a no decision, allowing three runs, only one earned, on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Senior righthander
Andrew Reitmeyer (1-2) took the loss, allowing the solo home run to end the game.
Jack Frank went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and scored three times for the Spartans (8-7). Zaid Walker was 1-for-3 and drove in a pair.
Conner Tomasic (2-0) earned the win, hurling three perfect innings, while striking out four. Starter Harrison Cook gave up three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and a walk in six innings.
Miller doubled to lead off the second, then Letney followed with an RBI single. Edwards put the Huskies ahead, 3-0, with his third home run of the season.
The Spartans answered in the bottom half on an RBI single by Walker, then closed to within one on Frank's solo shot in the fourth. Frank scored when Walker reached on an error in the sixth to tie the game, 3-3.
The series continues with a 1:05 p.m. start Saturday and concludes with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch Sunday.
