WBB: Huskies Head to Toledo for the First Round of the WNIT

HBU plays against Toledo in the first round on Friday

TOLEDO, Ohio – The HBU women's basketball season continues on in the WNIT tournament beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m. against the Toledo Rockets in Savage Arena. The game can be watched live on ESPN3 or listened to on a radio call from Garrett Jones on HBUHuskies.com
 
This marks the first time that HBU women's basketball has played postseason basketball in program history, adding more to what was an already historic season for the Huskies.
 
HBU (16-10, 12-2 SLC) is coming off of a loss in the Southland Conference Semifinals to the eventual champion UIW Cardinals in the Merrell Center last Saturday, 54-33.
 
The Toldeo Rockets (26-5, 19-1 MAC) last played in the WNIT in 2018-19 season. They won their opening contest against Seton Hall before dropping their second game to Northwestern. The Rockets are coming off of a loss in the semifinals of the MAC Women's Basketball Tournament to Ball State.
 
The Huskies are led by Southland Conference Player of the Year Timia Jefferson who scored 12.7 points per game. N'Denasija Collins averaged 9.4 points per game while pulling in 6.4 rebounds and shot 35 percent from the field. Marilyn Nzoiwu pulls in 7.4 rebounds per game to lead HBU. Abbey Sutherland is tied with Nzoiwu for the lteam lead in blocks with 32.
 
Toledo was led this season by Quenesha Lockett who averaged 17.5 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Rockets. Sophia Wiard drops in 12.8 points per game for Toledo and leads the rockets in assists with 137.
 
This will be the first time that HBU and Toledo have faced each other.
 
The winner of this game will play the winner of Kent State and Youngstown State, with more information to be released post game.
