KATY, Texas -The Southland Conference regular season champion HBU women's basketball team takes on the UIW Cardinals in the Semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Merrell Center.

The fifth seed Cardinals (11-16, 5-9 SLC) upset the fourth seed McNeese Cowgirls in the quarter finals of the conference tournament to advance on and face the Huskies. Destiny Terrell set career highs with 24 points and 19 rebounds.

The Huskies (16-9, 12-2 SLC) won both of their regular season matchups against the Cardinals. Their first matchup came in San Antonio and saw the Huskies outscore the Cardinals 40-27 to storm back from a 12-point deficit to win 62-57. The Huskies stopped a second half comeback from the Cardinals in the school's second matchup of the season in Sharp Gym. The Huskies held UIW to just two points in the second quarter.

Southland Coach of the Year
Donna Finnie led her team to the Southland regular season title for the first time in program history. This marks the first team at HBU to secure the regular season crown in any sport.

Southland Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection
Timia Jefferson led the Huskies in scoring this season, averaging 12.4 points per game. She shot 88.3 percent from the foul line over the course of the season which was the 17
th highest percentage in all of NCAA DI women's basketball.
N'Denasija Collins was second on HBU in scoring with 9.7 points.

Second Team All-Conference selections
Julija Vujakovic and
Kennedy Wilson averaged 9.6 and 8.8 points respectively. Vujakovic was sixth in the conference grabbing 1.6 steals per contest. Wilson led all of the Southland in three-point shooting percentage at 51.7 percent and free throw percentage at 92.1 percent during conference play.

Marilyn Nzoiwu led the Huskies in rebounding with 183 boards and tied with
Abbey Sutherland for the team lead in blocks with 29.

The winner of this matchup will advance to the Southland Conference Championship that will air live on the CBS Sports Network Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
