WBB: Huskies Begin Three Game Road Trip Against Some Familiar Faces

Huskies to face Northwestern State and Southeastern for the second time in a week

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The HBU women's basketball team is heading to Louisiana for a three game road trip beginning Thursday evening in Prather Coliseum against the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 5:00 p.m.

This will be the second time the two teams have taken the court against each other in the last week.  The Huskies (9-9, 5-2 SLC) took home the win in last Thursday's matchup against the Lady Demons (9-9, 2-5) in Sharp Gym, 66-51. In that game, Timia Jefferson led four Huskies in double figures and had a game high 17 points. Kennedy Wilson and Marilyn Nzoiwu each added 14 points whiile Julija Vujakovic dropped in 13. 
 
Following their loss to HBU, Northwestern State traveled to Lake Charles to take on McNeese on Saturday afternoon. They dropped that game, 77-60. For the season, the Lady Demons are led by Candice Parramore who averages 12.9 points per game.
 
Following their win against the Lady Demons, the Huskies dropped the final game of their home stand against the top ranked Southeastern Lady Lions.
 
The Huskies have won three consecutive games against Northwestern State over the past two seasons, however the Lady Demons are in control of the overall series, 7-5, dating back to the 2013-14 season.
 
Since starting conference play, the Huskies have found their stroke from three point range and at the free throw line. They are first in the Southland in both, shooting 33 percent and 86 percent respectively.  The Huskies are ten percentage points better than any other school from the free throw line.
 
Perimeter defense for the Huskies' has been as good as their shooting. They are allowing just 24 percent of opponent's threes to fall, which ranks second best in the conference.
 
Individually, Jefferson ranks fourth in the conference in scoring with 15.4 points per game and sixth in field goal percentage, shooting at a 40 percent clip from the floor. Over the course of the season, Jefferson has knocked down 90 percent of her free throws, good for 14th in the nation. Wilson leads the Southland in free throw percentage during conference play, knocking down a staggering 92 percent of her attempts.
 
Following their bout with the Lady Demons, the Huskies will travel to Hammond, Louisiana to face the Southeastern Lady Lions Saturday afternoon, tipoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
