HOUSTON – The HBU women's basketball team dropped the final game of their home stand Saturday afternoon to the conference leading Southeastern Lady Lions in Sharp Gym.
The Huskies (9-9, 5-2 SLC) offense could not get rolling this afternoon as the Southeastern (11-6, 7-0 SLC) defense made it difficult for the Huskies to get anything going. The Huskies started the game strong on the defensive end holding the Lady Lions to just 36.2 percent shooting in the first quarter.
Timia Jefferson got the scoring started for the Huskies before
Julija Vujakovic made a deep three ball to tie things at five. After a Lady Lions 5-0 run, a made layup and a pair of free throws from
Kennedy Wilson cut the lead to 10-9 heading into the second quarter.
Southeastern's defense was the story of the second quarter, holding the Huskies to just four points on 2-8 shooting from the field. Caitlyn Williams dropped in six points for the Lady Demons in the second to extend their lead to 23-13 heading into halftime. Southeastern outscore the Huskies 29-17 in the second half to take the win 52-30.
For the game, Vujakovic led the Huskies in scoring with eight points while
N'Denasija Collins had seven points, six rebounds, and three steals off of the bench.
The Huskies will head to Louisiana next week for a pair of matchups against Northwestern State Lady Demons on Thursday night before having a rematch against the Southeastern Lady Lions Saturday afternoon.
