SAN MARCOS, Texas - The HCU women's basketball team takes a two-game road trip through Texas to play the Texas State Bobcats Tuesday evening before facing the Texas Longhorns Wednesday afternoon. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.

HCU (5-4) is coming off of back-to-back wins against the Arlington Baptist Patriots and the St. Thomas Celts. The Huskies reached the century mark for the first time this season against ABU before taking down the Celts.

N'Denasija Collins had a great home stand, putting up career highs in points (23) and rebounds (15) against ABU.

Texas State (6-3) and HCU played each other last season in a game that saw the Bobcats down the Huskies 58-54. Collins led all scorers with 17 points while
Enya Maguire had 11. HCU had the lead with just over three minutes left in the game, 54-53 but went scoreless the rest of the way. Overall the Bobcats have a 3-2 advantage in the series dating back to 2011. HCU's last victory came in the 2014-15 season.

Da'Nasia Hood is leading the Bobcat offense in scoring averaging a staggering 20.2 ppg and 7.6 rpg. Tianna Eaton, Lauryn Thompson, and Kennedy Taylor all average around 10 points. As a team, Texas State is hooting 45 percent from the floor, 32 percent from three and just under 70 percent from the foul line.

Texas (7-4) opened the season with three straight wins before dropping games to UConn and Louisville, both ranked in the top five in the nation. The Huskies have only faced the Longhorns one time in program history. In 2016 the Longhorns downed HCU 98-46.

Sonya Morris leads four Longhorns averaging double-digit scoring with 11.5ppg. She is shooting 39 percent from the floor, 43 percent from three and 90 percent from the foul line. As a team Texas is shooting 45 percent from the floor, 35 percent from three, and 73 percent from the charity stripe. Taylor Jones leads UT in rebounding, pulling in six per game.

Julija Vujakovic still leads the HCU offense in scoring at just under 14 points per game while Collins adds 12.6 and a team high 6.4 boards. Collins also leads the team in shooting percentages knocking down shots at a 57 percent clip including 54 percent from distance.

HCU returns home on New Year's Eve to begin their regular season Southland Conference title defense when they officially open up the Southland schedule against the New Orleans Privateers at noon. Â Â
