BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The HCU women's basketball team heads to Louisiana to take on the 15th ranked LSU Tigers Wednesday morning in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 11:00 a.m. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
HCU (1-1) is coming off of a loss at No. 22 Nebraska last Saturday, a contest that saw
Marilyn Nzoiwu put up her first double-double of the season.
N'Denasija Collins scored a team high 14 points while
Julija Vujakovic added 11, her first game in double-figures this season.
Collins leads the Huskies in scoring this season following an impressive opening week. She is averaging 17.5 points per game and is shooting 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the field, 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from three-point range, and 81.8 percent from the foul line (9-of-11).
Enya Maguire is the leading scorer off the bench for the Huskies, averaging 8.5 points in just under 20 minutes per game. The Huskies have opened the season hot from the field, knocking down over 40 percent of their shots as a team.
After finish second in the SEC last season, LSU (3-0) has dominated opponents so far this season, to the tune of over 110 points scored per game. Most recently, they beat Western Carolina 107-34. Angels Reese currently leads the Tigers in scoring and rebounding, averages 21.3 points and 14.3 rebounds per game. In total, five Tigers are averaging double-digit scoring this year.
