LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – The HCU women's basketball team heads to Nebraska to take on the Huskers for the first time in program history Friday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The is the first of four consecutive games on the road for the Huskies. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
HCU (1-0, 0-0 SLC) is coming off of a dominating win over the University of the Southwest Mustangs last Monday.
N'Denasija Collins led all husky scorers with 21 points. She was 6-of-7 from the field and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Enya Maguire made the most of her 22 minutes off the bench, dropping in 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field including three makes from distance.
Kennedy Wilson dished out six assists and had four steals, both team highs, while
Amy Cotton grabbed nine boards off the bench. As a team, the Huskies were hot throughout the entire contest, shooting 50 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from three, and 82.1 percent from the foul line.
Nebraska (1-0, 0-0 BIG 10) is coming off of a rout over the University of Omaha, 100-36. Isabelle Bourne and Allison Weidner combined for 40 points and 18 rebounds. Jaz Shelley dished out 10 assists and had four steals, both team highs. The Huskers forced 19 turnovers and had six blocks.
The Huskies return south for their next game against the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge next Wednesday at 11 a.m.
