HOUSTON – HBU went into the half even with the visiting McNeese Cowgirls but ultimately came up short, falling 2-1 in Southland Conference women's soccer action on a beautiful Thursday evening at Sorrels Field.
McNeese (7-3-1, 4-1-0 SLC) started the game on the offensive, attempting the first six shots of the game. Rachel Young put a shot off the post in the 27

Karla Ramirez grabbed the ball as it bounced back in front of the goal.
Mia Salas took the first shot for HBU (1-7-2, 1-2-1 SLC), missing high and right in the 32
nd minute.
Rachel Young put the Cowgirls on the board at the 33:54 mark off a corner kick that bounced around in front of goal and the sophomore knocked the shot home with an assist from Abbi Morrell. The Huskies' equalizer came less than seven minutes later in the 41
st minute, also on a set piece, with a
Ryan Ford free kick from near the sideline setting up sophomore
Evelyn Slaughter's header off a McNeese defender and into the goal.
In the second half, Young secured the brace off another corner with Delana Friesen feeding the ball to Young in front of the goal in the 66
th minute. The Huskies were unable to put an attempt on target in the second with
Noor Abukishk's try in the 89
th minute missing just left of the goal.
Slaughter's goal came in her first appearance of the season and is the second of her career. Her first came in her first-ever collegiate game last season against Houston. Ford's assist is her third of the season with all three coming in the last two games. In goal, Ramirez finished with six saves.
Shot attempts were close with McNeese taking 14 to the Huskies' 11 but the Cowgirls were able to put eight shots on goal with HBU placing just two shots between the posts.
The Huskies will be off this weekend and will travel to Natchitoches, La. to play the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Friday, Oct. 1, at 5:00 p.m.
