HOUSTON – The HBU women's soccer team saw five different players score goals in a 7-0 shutout win over Southland Conference opponent Nicholls on Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field to give head coach
Chris Dodd his first career win.
Senior
Noor Abukishk kicked off the scoring for the Huskies (1-6-2, 1-1-1 SLC) with a goal in the 15
th minute with a through ball from
Katie Marker setting her up to make one touch past the Nicholls (0-7, 0-3 SLC) and put the ball into an empty net. Marker then got in on the action with her first goal of the season in the 31
st minute when a
Ryan Ford free kick in the HBU attacking third found
Bryce Reynolds in the box who headed the ball to Marker's feet and the sophomore made it a two-goal match.
Less than two minutes later Marker made it a brace, collecting a pass from Ford inside the 18-yard box and beating the keeper from in front of goal. The Huskies' fourth goal of the first half came at the 37:09 mark with
Talin Rizo passing the ball to Ford from near midfield with Ford dribbling to near the corner of the 18-yard box and putting a shot over the keeper and into the right side of the net.
It took just over three minutes for Abukishk to find goal number two of the day with an assist from Rizo, taking a pass at the top of the box before dribbling around a defender and beating the keeper. HBU's sixth goal of the match was a textbook cross into the six-yard box from the left with Abukishk setting up
Ariana King to one-touch the ball into the net in the 61
st minute. Senior
Jessica Nevils closed out the scoring in the 83
rd minute with her first goal of the year, dribbling into the box and finding the left side of the net with assists from both
Felicia Hernandez and Marker.
The Huskies ended the day with 37 total shots, the second-highest single-match shot total in program history, with 14 of those attempts on target. Marker finished the game with two goals and two assists while Abukishk had two goals and one assist. Ford had one goal to go with a pair of assists while Rizo finished with two assists. In goal for the Huskies,
Karla Ramirez earned the shutout with four saves.
HBU will remain at home for its next match, a Thursday, Sep. 23, evening contest against McNeese with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Sorrels Field.
