WSOC: Huskies Drop SLC Match to Southeastern

Two first half goals the difference

HOUSTON – HBU came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 decision in Southland Conference women's soccer action on Thursday afternoon at the Campbell Road Sports Complex, falling to the visiting Southeastern Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions (2-5, 1-2 SLC) found the net in the sixth minute with a long cross by Mya Guillory setting up Darby Gillette who lofted a shot over the keeper from a tough angle into the net. HBU (0-6-2, 0-1-1 SLC) put the pressure on following that first goal with six shot attempts in the next 16 minutes with three of those on goal, including a blast from Ryan Ford from outside the 18-yard box that was deflected off the crossbar. Southeastern then earned a penalty kick in the 35th minute with Dalton Fish converting from the spot to go ahead 2-0 at the half.

Right out of the box in the second half the Lions' Guillory put an attempt on target  but HBU's Karla Ramirez made the stop. Senior Bryce Reynolds had a shot stopped at the 62 minute mark and the Huskies' final shot on goal came off the foot of Noor Abukishk in the 79th minute.

HBU finished with 10 shots, eight of which came in the first half, and five shots on goal. Southeastern, meanwhile, totaled 16 shots with six on target. The Huskies held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks earned.

Reynolds had four shot attempts for the Huskies with Ford adding three. In goal, Ramirez finished with six saves.

The Huskies will be back on the pitch this Sunday, Sep. 19, afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. to take on the Nicholls Colonels at Sorrels Field.
