HOUSTON – HBU got a goal from freshman
Evelyn Slaughter but the Huskies fell 3-1 to Houston on Thursday evening at Carl Lewis Stadium in the team's first game of the spring season.
The Cougars (1-0-0) jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the seventh minute off the foot of Zionah Browne. UH expanded its lead with goals in the 19
th minute and then late in the half, finding the net during the 43
rd minute. Following that third goal, HBU (0-1-1) recorded its first shot attempt of the game with Slaughter finding the net with an assist from
Noor Abukishk to cut the HBU deficit to two. In the second half, the Cougars managed the period's only shot on goal with HBU's
Karla Ramirez making the save.
Slaughter's goal was the first of her career while it was career assist number three for Abukishk. Freshman
Mia Salas and sophomore
Presley Payne also had shot attempts for the Huskies.
UH held a 14-3 advantage in shot attempts and earned six corner kicks to HBU's 1.
HBU will be back at it on Sunday, Feb. 7, with another crosstown matchup at Rice with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
